How it plays, in plain words
Each player controls one animal and has exactly one key: A for the player on the left, the Left arrow for the player on the right. Pressing your key makes your animal eat. Poki tags the game with animals, food, cats and dogs, which gives a fair idea of who is at the table. Because each player has a single key, there is nothing to explain before the first round beyond which side is yours.
The aim, as Poki describes it, is to tap fast to grab the good food while avoiding frozen or spoiled food, which takes points away. So the game asks for speed and restraint at once: quick presses help, and a press at the wrong moment costs you. That balance is what keeps it from being a pure button-mashing contest: the player who watches the food closely has an edge over the one who simply presses the most.
Poki lists computer, phone and tablet. The controls it gives are for a shared keyboard, which is the plainest way for two people to play side by side.
